Tiffany Haddish is the latest celebrity of many to have tested positive for the coronavirus over the course of the pandemic. The star has revealed that three months ago, she had the virus that causes COVID-19, reports HelloGiggles.
She disclosed this during a 34-minute interview with Anthony Fauci, MD, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease. The two discussed the coronavirus and how specifically it affects the Black and Latino communities. In addition, the two discussed vaccines for COVID-19, ways people can protect themselves from the virus and whether supplements and vitamins could improve the immune system to help keep Americans safe.
“I was working on a movie, and someone in the movie contracted [the] coronavirus,” Haddish said. “I was not in direct contact with them. But they sent all of us home; we stopped the movie.”
Haddish said she was told to get tested as a precaution. Initially, her results came back negative. But when she learned that a friend she’d been in contact with had tested positive for the virus, Haddish took another test. Two days later, she tested positive.
Haddish self-quarantined and then got tested again. She no longer had the virus but tested positive for coronavirus antibodies.
Since returning to film sets, Haddish has been tested 12 times. She also revealed that she no longer has detectable antibodies, which Fauci confirmed is likely because these disease-specific proteins can have a short half-life.
Fauci advised Haddish to be careful, since doctors don’t know yet how long individuals who contracted COVID-19 are protected from a recurrence of the illness. This means that Haddish should continue practicing social distancing and proper hygiene as well as wearing a mask in public spaces, stressed Fauci.
Haddish said she’s remixed the Naughty by Nature song “OPP” to remind herself about the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE). “You down with PPE?” she sang. “Yeah, you know me. We all stay clean. Wear your mask, baby.”
